Tâm Sự Tài Xế Taxi... …. “Self Development”
Dạo trước em đi làm cu-li “process worker” 5 ngày trong hăng. V́ thiếu tiền xài, cuối tuần chạy xe taxi thêm 2 ngày nữa. Trong lúc rảnh chờ khách, em đọc đủ loại truyện, tác giả nào là Kim Dung, Quỳnh Dao, v..v
Sau mấy năm trời làm việc nh́n túi tiền của ḿnh cũng chẳng có dư bao nhiêu.

Kụ Lư đọc sách cuả Jim Rohn, mới qua đời mấy năm nay ở tuổi 79, một doanh nhân thành công ở Mỹ, cũng là một tác giả viết hay, một diễn giả nói giỏi, người hay lấy cuộc đời ḿnh ra để làm gương cho người muốn tiến thân, từ hoàn cảnh xác xơ biến thành giàu sang (rags to riches)... mà ông gọi là "thành công" (success) trên đời, đối chiếu với "thất bại" (failure)...
Dĩ nhiên, ông viết và nói bằng tiếng Anh, mà người Việt đọc th́ cũng ... khó hiểu, phần nhỏ v́ ngôn ngữ, nhưng phần lớn là cung cách tư duy cuả người phương Tây, th́ khác với người phương Đông chúng ḿnh.
Kụ Lư gốc từ phương Đông nhưng "sống đời ở kiếp" với phương Tây, mà hiểu hết, cũng là khó, huống chi người chỉ sống với phương Đông cuả ḿnh!
Ví dụ như câu trích dẫn (quote) rằng
"Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person you become."
Dịch từng chữ sang tiếng Việt : "Thành công không phải là để theo đuổi; mà nó th́ bị cuốn hút bởi con người bạn trở thành."
Tôi là người Việt, đọc câu tiếng Việt ở trên, th́ chẳng hiểu ǵ cả! Mà đọc câu tiếng Anh, lại hiểu được, mà hiểu th́ hiểu, nhưng diễn tả cái hiểu ra bằng tiếng Việt, lại không được, phải không Kụ Lư?
Hay là có ai diễn tả được, th́ dịch sang tiếng Việt cho mọi người cùng hiểu, câu này, chép lại lần nưă:
"Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person you become."

Ở trên, tôi đă "dịch từng chữ", như sinnombre cũng làm như vậy, th́ rút cuộc cũng chẳng có ai hiểu câu

nghiă là ǵ cả!
Vậy chúng ta cứ chờ xem, có ai giải thích được chăng? Diễn đàn này, thiếu ǵ người "bằng cấp đầy ḿnh", "viết tiếng Anh như máy", "nói tiếng Anh ... như gió", thế nào cũng có người giải thích tốt nhất!
Theo tôi, chắc dịch từng chữ, hay bằng từ điển, hoặc nhờ Google dịch, th́ không được rồi!

Con cám ơn Bác rất nhiều nha, đúng là câu nói nầy thật là khó hiểu khi dịch ra tiếng Việt cùa ḿnh. Con cám ơn Bác lần nữa nhiều lắm nhe. Giờ th́ con cũng đợi những người "bằng cấp đầy ḿnh", "viết tiếng Anh như máy", "nói tiếng Anh ... như gió" dịch ra câu nầy để con học thêm tiếng Anh và tiếng Việt đó.

Cảm ơn bác OTOTOT và Sinnombre1 góp ư kiến về câu nói của ông Jim Rohn làm cho bài vở thêm phong phú.
Câu nói ở trên giải thích bằng tiếng Anh cho người khác hiểu đă khó rồi. Huống hồ là dịch sang tiếng Việt.
Hy vọng bác OTOTOT với vài chữ có thể làm (sáng tỏ như đêm ba mươi) “as clear as mud” cho mọi người cùng hiểu.

One of the major reasons why we fail to find happiness or to create unique lifestyle is because we have not yet mastered the art of being.
While we are home our thoughts are still absorbed with solving the challenges we face at the office. And when we are at the office we find ourselves worrying about problems at home.
We go through the day without really listening to what others are saying to us. We may be hearing the words, but we aren’t absorbing the message.

It is developing a unique focus on the current moment, and drawing from it all of the substance and wealth of experience and emotions that it has to offer. Lifestyle is taking time to watch a sunset. Lifestyle is listening to silence. Lifestyle is capturing each moment so that it becomes a new part of what we are and of what we are in the process of becoming. Lifestyle is not something we do; it is something we experience. And until we learn to be there, we will never master the art of living well.

Four Words That Make Life Worthwhile
by Jim Rohn
Over the years as I’ve sought out ideas, principles and strategies to life’s challenges, I’ve come across four simple words that can make living worthwhile.
First, life is worthwhile if you LEARN. What you don’t know WILL hurt you. You have to have learning to exist, let alone succeed. Life is worthwhile if you learn from your own experiences—negative or positive. We learn to do it right by first sometimes doing it wrong. We call that a positive negative. We also learn from other people’s experiences, both positive and negative. I’ve always said that it is too bad failures don’t give seminars. Obviously, we don’t want to pay them so they aren’t usually touring around giving seminars. But that information would be very valuable—we would learn how someone who had it all then messed it up. Learning from other people’s experiences and mistakes is valuable information because we can learn what not to do without the pain of having tried and failed ourselves.
We learn by what we see, so pay attention. We learn by what we hear, so be a good listener. Now I do suggest that you should be a selective listener. Don’t just let anybody dump into your mental factory. We learn from what we read, so learn from every source: from lectures, from songs, from sermons, and from conversations with people who care. Always keep learning.
Second, life is worthwhile if you TRY. You can’t just learn; now you have to try something to see if you can do it. Try to make a difference, try to make some progress, try to learn a new skill, try to learn a new sport. It doesn’t mean you can do everything, but there are a lot of things you can do, if you just try. Try your best. Give it every effort. Why not go all out?
Third, life is worthwhile if you STAY. You have to stay from spring until harvest. If you have signed up for the day or for the game or for the project, see it through. Sometimes calamity comes and then it is worth wrapping it up. And that’s the end, but just don’t end in the middle. Maybe on the next project you pass, but on this one, if you signed up, see it through.
And lastly, life is worthwhile if you CARE. If you care at all, you will get some results. If you care enough, you can get incredible results. Care enough to make a difference. Care enough to turn somebody around. Care enough to start a new enterprise. Care enough to change it all. Care enough to be the highest producer. Care enough to set some records. Care enough to win.
Four powerful little words: learn, try, stay and care. What difference can you make in your life today by putting these words to work?

Tôi xin lược dịch sang tiếng Việt, và tŕnh bày dưới dạng song ngữ (bi-lingual format) để thân tặng những bạn đang học tiếng Anh trau giồi thêm ngoại ngữ này.

Trong nhiều năm qua, tôi từng đi lùng kiếm những ư tưởng, nguyên tắc và sách lược trước những thử thách cuả cuộc đời, và t́m ra 4 từ đơn giản giúp cho đời đáng sống.
Thứ nhất, đời đáng sống nếu ta HỌC. Ngu dốt sẽ làm bạn thiệt thân. Bạn phải học th́ mới sống được, nói chi là thành công. Đời đáng sống khi học từ kinh nghiệm bản thân – dù là kinh nghiệm xấu hay tốt. Học làm cho đúng bằng cách thoạt tiên làm sai. Ta gọi đó là xấu mà tốt. Cũng học từ kinh nghiệm cuả thiên hạ, cả tốt lẫn xấu. Tôi đă từng luôn nói thất bại mà tệ quá th́ bàn đến mà chi. Dĩ nhiên, ta chẳng muốn tốn tiền mà loay hoay bàn luận chuyện đó. Nhưng thông tin đó lại rất có ích – ta sẽ học được xem v́ đâu mà có người làm hỏng chuyện. Học những kinh nghiệm và sai lầm cuả thiên hạ là có ích, v́ tránh được đau khổ v́ chính ḿnh khi làm sai .
Học bằng cách nh́n những ǵ mắt thấy, nên hăy chú ư nh́n nhé. Học bằng cách nghe, vậy tập lắng nghe cho giỏi nhé. Đừng cho phép ai trút bỏ điều bậy bạ vào tâm trí ḿnh. Học qua những điều ta đọc, vậy hăy học từ đủ mọi nguồn: nghe thuyết tŕnh, nghe ca hát, nghe thuyết pháp, nghe những người bàn tán chuyện đáng bàn. Hăy luôn luôn học hỏi.

Từ (word) thứ nhất mà ta vưà bàn luận là LEARN = HỌC. Bây giờ đến từ thứ nh́ là TRY = THỬ (LÀM), mời bà con xem tiếp:

Từ thứ 3, sau từ Learn và Try là STAY, tiếng Anh có nghiă là "lưu lại", "ở lại" (tức là "không bỏ đi nơi khác"…), nhưng ở đây, tôi xin dịch là "trụ lại" hay "bám trụ", tức là "không bỏ nưả chừng một công việc đang làm chưa xong"…
Mời bà con xem phần song ngữ:

Chữ thứ tư, cũng là chữ cuối cùng trong 4 chữ đơn sơ và cực kỳ quan trọng trong cuộc sống là CARE.
Động từ "Care" trong tiếng Anh thường … khó dịch sang tiếng Việt, nên mấy người Việt, nhất là ở Mỹ, thường nói "Tôi không care chuyện đó" , ngụ ư là "Tôi cứ nói điều đó, cứ làm chuyện đó, mà chẳng thèm quan tâm, không cần biết hậu quả sẽ ra sao…! Cứ làm, cứ nói, cho thoả ư cuả ḿnh, xấu hay tốt thây kệ!"
Đáng tiếc, đây là thái độ cuả kẻ chỉ biết ḿnh, không cần ai, không quan tâm đến ai ngoài ḿnh…

Achieving Your Dreams

While most people spend most of their lives struggling to earn a living, a much smaller number seem to have everything going their way. Instead of just earning a living, the smaller group is busily working at building and enjoying a fortune. Everything just seems to work out for them. And here sits the much larger group, wondering how life can be so unfair, so complicated and unjust. What’s the major difference between the little group with so much and the larger group with so little?
Despite all of the factors that affect our lives—like the kind of parents we have, the schools we attended, the part of the country we grew up in—none has as much potential power for affecting our futures as our ability to dream.
Dreams are a projection of the kind of life you want to lead. Dreams can drive you. Dreams can make you skip over obstacles. When you allow your dreams to pull you, they unleash a creative force that can overpower any obstacle in your path. To unleash this power, though, your dreams must be well defined. A fuzzy future has little pulling power. Well-defined dreams are not fuzzy. Wishes are fuzzy. To really achieve your dreams, to really have your future plans pull you forward, your dreams must be vivid.
If you’ve ever hiked a 14,000-foot peak in the Rocky Mountains, one thought has surely come to mind: “How did the settlers of this country do it?” How did they get from the East Coast to the West Coast? Carrying one day’s supply of food and water is hard enough. Can you imagine hauling all of your worldly goods with you... mile after mile, day after day, month after month? These people had big dreams. They had ambition. They didn’t focus on the hardship of getting up the mountain.
In their minds, they were already on the other side—their bodies just hadn’t gotten them there yet! Despite all of their pains and struggles, all of the births and deaths along the way, those who made it to the other side had a single vision: to reach the land of continuous sunshine and extraordinary wealth. To start over where anything and everything was possible. Their dreams were stronger than the obstacles in their way.
You’ve got to be a dreamer. You’ve got to envision the future. You’ve got to see California while you’re climbing 14,000-foot peaks. You’ve got to see the finish line while you’re running the race. You’ve got to hear the cheers when you’re in the middle of a monster project. And you’ve got to be willing to put yourself through the paces of doing the uncomfortable until it becomes comfortable. Because that’s how you realize your dreams.

Some people take better care of their pets than they do themselves. Their animals can run like the wind and they can barely make it up a flight of stairs.
Make sure the outside of you is a good reflection of the inside of you.
Treat your body like a temple, not a woodshed. The mind and body work together. Your body needs to be a good support system for the mind and spirit. If you take good care of it, your body can take you wherever you want to go, with the power and strength and energy and vitality you will need to get there.
Take good care of your body. It's the only place you have to live.

Success is Easy, But So is Neglect

People often ask me how I became successful in that six-year period of time while many of the people I knew did not. The answer is simple: The things I found to be easy to do, they found to be easy not to do. I found it easy to set the goals that could change my life. They found it easy not to. I found it easy to read the books that could affect my thinking and my ideas. They found that easy not to. I found it easy to attend the classes and the seminars, and to get around other successful people. They said it probably really wouldn't matter. If I had to sum it up, I would say what I found to be easy to do, they found to be easy not to do. Six years later, I'm a millionaire and they are all still blaming the economy, the government, and company policies, yet they neglected to do the basic, easy things.
In fact, the primary reason most people are not doing as well as they could and should, can be summed up in a single word: neglect.
It is not the lack of money - banks are full of money. It is not the lack of opportunity - America, and much of the free World, continues to offer the most unprecedented and abundant opportunities in the last six thousand years of recorded history. It is not the lack of books – libraries are full of books - and they are free! It is not the schools - the classrooms are full of good teachers. We have plenty of ministers, leaders, counselors and advisors.
Everything we would ever need to become rich and powerful and sophisticated is within our reach. The major reason that so few take advantage of all that we have is simply neglect.
Neglect is like an infection. Left unchecked it will spread throughout our entire system of disciplines and eventually lead to a complete breakdown of a potentially joy-filled and prosperous human life.
Not doing the things we know we should do causes us to feel guilty and guilt leads to an erosion of self-confidence. As our self-confidence diminishes, so does the level of our activity. And as our activity diminishes, our results inevitably decline. And as our results suffer, our attitude begins to weaken. And as our attitude begins the slow shift from positive to negative, our self-confidence diminishes even more... and on and on it goes.
So my suggestion is that when giving the choice of “easy to” and “easy not to” that you do not neglect to do the simple, basic, “easy” but potentially life-changing activities and disciplines.

The Two Choices We Face

Each of us has two distinct choices to make about what we will do with our lives. The first choice we can make is to be less than we have the capacity to be. To earn less. To have less. To read less and think less. To try less and discipline ourselves less. These are the choices that lead to an empty life. These are the choices that, once made, lead to a life of constant apprehension instead of a life of wondrous anticipation.
And the second choice? To do it all! To become all that we can possibly be. To read every book that we possibly can. To earn as much as we possibly can. To give and share as much as we possibly can. To strive and produce and accomplish as much as we possibly can. All of us have the choice.
To do or not to do. To be or not to be. To be all or to be less or to be nothing at all.
Like the tree, it would be a worthy challenge for us all to stretch upward and outward to the full measure of our capabilities. Why not do all that we can, every moment that we can, the best that we can, for as long as we can?
Our ultimate life objective should be to create as much as our talent and ability and desire will permit. To settle for doing less than we could do is to fail in this worthiest of undertakings.
Results are the best measurement of human progress. Not conversation. Not explanation. Not justification. Results! And if our results are less than our potential suggests that they should be, then we must strive to become more today than we were the day before. The greatest rewards are always reserved for those who bring great value to themselves and the world around them as a result of whom and what they have become.
