…. “Self Development” Dạo trước em đi làm cu-li “process worker” 5 ngày trong hăng. V́ thiếu tiền xài, cuối tuần chạy xe taxi thêm 2 ngày nữa. Trong lúc rảnh chờ khách, em đọc đủ loại truyện, tác giả nào là Kim Dung, Quỳnh Dao, v..v
Sau mấy năm trời làm việc nh́n túi tiền của ḿnh cũng chẳng có dư bao nhiêu.
Ha ha! Những nước giàu có từ bao đời nay như Hoa Kỳ, Tây Âu... đều bị ảnh hưởng nặng nề cuả "suy thoái kinh tế", th́ phen này, những nước nổi tiếng nghèo mạt từ bao đời nay mới có dịp ... đổi đời chứ!
Thậm chí có người c̣n lạc quan tếu, đến nỗi cho rằng không bao lâu nưă, Trung Quốc (TQ) sẽ chiếm chỗ ngồi chồm hổm trên đỉnh thế giới cuả Mỹ!
Này nhé, bây giờ Trung Quốc đă có tầu sân bay nè, mới đây đă phóng tầu vũ trụ có người lái lên trạm không gian nè, đă là chủ nợ lớn nhất cuả Mỹ nè...! Quân sự mạnh như thế, kinh tế giàu như thế, khoa học tiến bộ như thế,... th́ TQ sẽ qua mặt Mỹ mấy hồi!!!
Vậy bà con đă từng theo dơi thời cuộc thế giới trong mấy chục năm qua nghĩ thế nào? Ví dụ như ai c̣n nhớ chăng thời vàng son cuà Liên Bang Xô Viết, khi mà cả khối này c̣n "ngon" hơn bao nhiêu lần TQ cuả ngày hôm nay?
Vậy th́ cớ ǵ mà nó lại sụp đổ thê thảm như vậy???

Ở trên, Kụ Lư cuả tôi vưà nhắc đến nạn ”Suy Thoái Kinh Tế”, chắc hẳn là muốn nói đến những xuống giốc kinh tế ở các nước phương Tây như Mỹ, và châu Âu, dĩ nhiên là gồm cả xứ Kangaroo cuả Kụ nưă!
Cũng như nhiều người không giỏi tiếng Việt, tôi cũng thấy hơi “tơ lơ mơ” về 2 cụm từ ”Suy Thoái” (Recession) và ”Suy Trầm” (Depression).
Tôi bèn lên mạng đọc, th́ thấy có chỗ bảo “suy thoái” (recession) mà kéo dài năm này sang năm khác th́ gọi là ”suy trầm” (depression), nhưng làm thế nào biết nó bắt đầu hay chấm dứt để “người trần mắt thịt” như tôi, như nhiều bà con, biết để c̣n “liệu cơm mà gắp mắm”?
Chuyện “cơm áo gạo tiền” mà c̣n u mê, th́ hèn chi chúng ḿnh chẳng kéo nhau lên mạng ảo để tán dóc!!!

Đă lâu có một chuyện hóm hỉnh mà các nhà kinh tế thường bông đuà: Suy thoái là khi người hàng xóm cuả bạn mất việc. C̣n suy trầm là khi chính bạn mất việc!
Sự khác biệt giưă 2 từ này th́ hơi khó hiểu v́ một lư do đơn giản: Mọi người đều không nhất trí được với nhau về định nghiă. Nếu bạn hỏi 100 nhà kinh tế xem họ định nghiă thế nào là “suy thoái” và thế nào là “suy trầm”, bạn sẽ có ít nhất 100 câu trả lời khác nhau.

Trung Quốc nh́n phía ngoài th́ rất là ngon. Nhưng hạ tầng cơ sở “infrastructure” th́ thua xa các nước Hoa Kỳ, Tây Âu, …. Nó cũng giống như xây một lâu đài cao trên cát, xập lúc nào không hay.
Nước Mỹ là nước dự trữ vàng nhiều nhất thế giới. Năm 1971, Tổng Thống Richard Nixon tuyên bố, đồng tiền Mỹ sẽ không được bảo chứng bằng vàng nữa. Bởi v́ vàng cứ chạy ra khỏi nuớc hoài không tốt.
Thế là từ đó chánh phủ Mỹ cứ đem giấy in ra thành tiền cho cả nước xài, và cho thế giới xài luôn. Lấy thí dụ năm 2010, chánh phủ Mỹ in 1 tỷ đô mỗi ngày, in mệt nghỉ.
Tiền cứ in hoài th́ không tốt. Lấy thí dụ nước Mỹ in qua nhiều tiền rồi xập luôn. Vào lúc thời George Washington in tiền “Continental currency” để sử dụng trong chiến tranh. Và tiền “Confederate dollar” xài trong lúc nội chiến “Civil War”.
Nước Mỹ mà phá sản th́ các nước trên thế giới cũng chết luôn. Nước nào dự trữ tiền Mỹ th́ ráng chịu.

Don't Send Your Ducks to Eagle School

The first rule of management is this: don’t send your ducks to eagle school. Why? Because it won’t work. Good people are found, not changed. They can change themselves, but you can’t change them. If you want good people, you have to find them. If you want motivated people, you have to find them, not motivate them.
I picked up a magazine not long ago in New York that had a full-page ad in it for a hotel chain. The first line of the ad read, “We do not teach our people to be nice.” Now that got my attention. The second line said, “We hire nice people.” I thought, "what a clever shortcut!”
Motivation is a mystery. Why are some people motivated and some are not? Why does one salesperson see his first prospect at seven in the morning while the other sees his first prospect at eleven in the morning? Why would one start at seven and the other start at eleven? I don’t know. Call it “mysteries of the mind.”
I give lectures to a thousand people at a time. One walks out and says, ‘I’m going to change my life.” Another walks out with a yawn and says, “I’ve heard all this stuff before.” Why is that?
The wealthy man says to a thousand people, “I read this book, and it started me on the road to wealth.” Guess how many of the thousand go out and get the book? Answer: very few. Isn’t that incredible? Why wouldn’t everyone go get the book? Mysteries of the mind…
To one person, you have to say, “You’d better slow down. You can’t work that many hours, do that many things, go, go, go. You’re going to have a heart attack and die.” And to another person, you have to say, “When are you going to get off the couch?” What is the difference? Why wouldn’t everyone strive to be wealthy and happy?
Chalk it up to mysteries of the mind and don’t waste your time trying to turn ducks into eagles. Hire people who already have the motivation and drive to be eagles and then just let them soar.

Skills Make Labor More Valuable

How about this: skillful language. If you just talk to your family you can hold them all together, but if you skillfully talk to your children you can help them build dreams for the future. That is why I spend so much time at the Weekend Seminar on communication—how to affect others with words. You can’t be lazy in language; it costs too much. What if you meant to say “what’s troubling you?” and instead you said “what’s wrong with you?” Wow, that’s too big a mistake. And sure you could have made that mistake 10 years ago, but not now. You should have gotten much better by now in language and communication.
Skills multiply labors by two, by five, by 10, by 50, by 100 times. Hey, you can chop a tree down with a hammer but it takes about 30 days, called labor. But if you trade the hammer in for an ax, you can chop the tree down in about 30 minutes. What’s the difference between 30 days and 30 minutes? Skills. Skills made the difference.
So do what you can—labor. But also do the best that you can do—improved skills. And you will find that the labor combined with skills will start producing miracles. Miracles with your money. Miracles with your family. And miracles in every part of your life.

I have found that income seldom will exceed your own personal development. Once in a while income takes a lucky jump, but unless you grow out to where it is, it will go back to where you are. Somebody once said if you took all the money in the world and divided it among everyone equally; it would soon be back in the same pockets. However, you can have more because you can become more. You see, here is how the other side of the coin reads - unless you change how you are, you will always have what you've got. The marketing plan won't do it. It 's a good plan but it won't work without you. You've got to work it. It is the human effort that counts. If you could send a sales manual out to recruit - wouldn't that be lovely? The major thing that makes the difference is what YOU do.
In order to have more, you need to become more. The guy says "If I had a good job I would really pour it on, but I have this lousy job so I just goof off." If that is your philosophy, you are destined to stay there. Some people say if I had a lot of money I would be really generous, but I don't have much so I'm not generous. See, you've got to change that philosophy or you will never have "the lots of money." Unless YOU change, IT won't change. Amazingly, however, when we throw out our blame list and start becoming more ourselves - the difference is everything else will begin to change around us.

The Ant Philosophy

Over the years I've been teaching children about a simple but powerful concept - the ant philosophy. I think everybody should study ants. They have an amazing four- part philosophy, and here is the first part: ants never quit. That's a good philosophy. If they're headed somewhere and you try to stop them; they'll look for another way. They'll climb over, they'll climb under, they'll climb around. They keep looking for another way. What a neat philosophy, to never quit looking for a way to get where you're supposed to go.
Second, ants think winter all summer. That's an important perspective. You can't be so naive as to think summer will last forever. So ants are gathering in their winter food in the middle of summer.
An ancient story says, "Don't build your house on the sand in the summer." Why do we need that advice? Because it is important to be realistic. In the summer, you've got to think storm. You've got to think rocks as you enjoy the sand and sun. Think ahead.
The third part of the ant philosophy is that ants think summer all winter. That is so important. During the winter, ants remind themselves, "This won't last long; we'll soon be out of here." And the first warm day, the ants are out. If it turns cold again, they'll dive back down, but then they come out the first warm day. They can't wait to get out.
And here's the last part of the ant philosophy. How much will an ant gather during the summer to prepare for the winter? All that he possibly can. What an incredible philosophy, the "all-that-you-possibly-can" philosophy.

Triết Lư Con Kiến
Cuả Jim Rohn
Suốt bao năm tôi đă từng dạy con trẻ về một ư niệm đơn giản nhưng hiệu nghiệm: triết lư con kiến. Tôi nghĩ mọi người nên học con kiến. Chúng có một triết lư kỳ lạ gồm 4 điểm, và đây là điểm 1: kiến không bao giờ bỏ cuộc. Thật là một triết lư tốt. Nếu kiến đă có ư tiến về nơi nào đó và bạn t́m cách chặn chúng; chúng sẽ t́m ra đường khác. Chúng sẽ leo lên, leo xuống, hoặc leo ṿng quanh. Chúng tiếp tục đi t́m một con đường khác. Triết lư hay quá: đừng bao giờ bỏ cuộc mà cứ đi t́m một cách để đến được nơi đă định đến.
Thứ hai: suốt muà hè kiến nghĩ đến đông. Một viễn kiến rất quan trọng đó. Bạn chẳng nên ngây thơ mà nghĩ rằng muà hè sẽ kéo dài măi măi. Nên kiến lo tích lương thực muà đông ngay khi đang giưă hè.
Có một câu chuyện cổ rằng: "Đừng xây nhà ḿnh trên cát trong muà hè". Tại sao ta cần lời khuyên đó? V́ quan trọng là ta nên thực tế. Trong muà hè, ta hăy nên nghĩ tới lúc giông băo. Hăy nên nghĩ đến sỏi đá khi vui vầy với cát biển và nắng ráo. Hăy lo trước.
Phần ba cuả triết lư loài kiến là suốt muà đông hăy nghĩ đến muà hè. Điều này thật quan trọng. Trong muà đông, kiến tự nhủ: "Gian khổ sẽ không kéo dài măi đâu; ta sẽ thoát ra khỏi." Và ngay ngày đầu ấm cúng, là kiến đă ra quân. Nếu t́nh thế lại khó khăn, chúng sẽ lại rút lui, và sẽ lại ra quân khi vưà nắng ấm. Chúng chẳng chần chừ mà không ra.
Và đây là phần cuối cùng cuả triết lư kiến. Con kiến sẽ tích luỹ bao nhiêu trong muà hè để chuẩn bị đối phó với muà đông? Theo tối đa nó có thể. Đúng là triết lư vô song : triết lư làm tối đa khả năng ḿnh làm được.
Chà! Hội thảo thật vĩ đại mà ta tham gia với loài kiến. Đừng bao giờ bỏ cuộc; hăy nh́n về phiá trước, ráng tích cực và làm hết ḿnh.

T́nh cờ t́m hiểu thêm về ông ta, mới biết, ông đă qua đời vào ngày 05/12/2009 ở West Hills, California.
Cảm nghĩ : Ông này đúng là bậc thầy của các bậc thầy.
